Psychiatric Report on Alleged Coup Plotter Deferred

President Jammeh

An intelligence officer attached to the State House on Thursday July 10, testified against the man who allegedly ran into the army barracks at Farafenni and asked soldiers to help him overthrow President Yahya Jammeh.
Foday Gassama, in his 60s, is facing one count of treason at the High Court in Banjul, presided over by AbdullahiMikilive.
He pleaded not guilty.

According to the witness, his unit was directed to look into the alleged security threat involving the accused person.
He said his unit launched an investigation into the matter. He added that during the course of the investigation, the statement of the accused was obtained which was admitted in evidence.
He said the accused was later taken to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital for psychiatric test where a medical report was issued.
At this juncture, the prosecutor, Njemeh Bah, applied to tender the investigation and the medical report, but the counsel for the accused raised an objection.
She said there was no name in the report as to who carried out the investigation, and there was also no signature.
“Why would you want to tender a report that has not been signed?” the judge enquired from the state counsel. “Why can’t you put your house in order.”
The state counsel, at this juncture, said she was withdrawing the application.
The case resumes Monday 16.
