Former Female Soldier Denies False Information Charges

Banjul Magistrates' Court

Adismissed female soldier has insisted that she was not lying when she told the President’s Office that she was fired from the Gambia Armed Forces for turning down sexual invitation of a superior army officer.
Yama Mendy yesterday made her appearance at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
She is accused of writing to the President’s Office alleging that she was dismissed from the army by Lieutenant T. Ebrima Ngum of Gambia Armed Forces for refusing to have an affair with Ngum.
The former female soldier however pleaded not guilty. The case resumes July 5, before Magistrate Alagbe.
